Upcoming user needs analysis of Libraries' website

by Ponsford, Bennett C last modified 2008-08-14 13:54

The Web Services Team is ramping up for several user needs projects in the next few weeks, and we wanted to fill you in before we get started.

Survey and Library Website Redesign Discussion Board

Within the next week we'll be sending out a survey to all University students, faculty, and staff asking them about their needs and preferences regarding the libraries' website <

Additionally, we'll be encouraging everyone to log on to our new discussion forum <

We're also going to encourage users to friend the Libraries' Website Redesign group in Facebook and comment on the website from there.

Focus Groups

Later in the summer we'll be running focus groups for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty to further explore the results of the survey and to get more detailed feedback on three aspects: How users want to find resources on our website; How to organize our resources to recommend the most appropriate ones to our users; and How our users prefer to communicate with us.

In the Fall

In the fall we will send out another survey to all students, faculty, and staff to get additional feedback, primarily on design considerations. Details of this are still being worked out. We will also ask for comments on prototypes as the new website is developed.

Finally, we will conduct task-based testing of both individual features of the new website as well as the site as a whole.

So that's the plan. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

Bennett
